Often not yet. A well-built Excel consolidation with real controls will serve a stable group of a handful of entities for years, and it is cheaper than any alternative.
It stops being the right answer at recognisable moments: when entities are added faster than the file can absorb them, when more than one currency and more than one reporting standard are in play, when the auditor begins asking how you know the file is right, or when only one person can open it without breaking something.
